On 18 August , Ms Ruth Zaipuna was appointed as the new CEO at NMB Bank, Tanzania after serving in an acting capacity since October 2019.
According to Dr Edwin Mhede, NMB Board Chairman, Ms Zaipuna has made a significant contribution to the overall leadership of the bank. “Ruth has been instrumental during the transition period of NMB. Now with full responsibility to lead the bank, she must drive a strong performance agenda and a sustainable delivery of NMB’s strategic agenda,” he said. Prior to assuming the Acting CEO position Ms Zaipuna was the Chief Financial Officer at NMB.
Ms Zaipuna commenced her career in 2002 at PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), where for a decade she specialised in the audit of banks and other financial institutions. She later took up the position of Executive Director, Finance and Chief Financial Officer (CFO) at Standard Chartered Bank in 2011. In 2017, Ms Zaipuna took on additional responsibilities combining her role in Tanzania with that of Business Finance Lead for the East African cluster, overseeing and leading the bank’s business finance activities in Tanzania, Kenya, and Uganda.
She is also an Associate Certified Public Accountant (ACPA (T)) and holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Finance and a Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com) degree in Accounting, both from the University of Dar es Salaam.
