In April, the Equity Group Foundation hosted its 16th annual Education and Leadership Congress, bringing together 18 442 Wings to Fly and Elimu scholars from across Kenya, including 2 500 refugees from Dadaab and Kakuma.
Themed The innovation generation: Igniting ideas, creating impact the event focused on leadership, innovation, and values based education. The scholars participated in mentorship sessions with EGF executives, government officials, UNHCR representatives and private sector experts.
Dr. James Mwangi, the Executive Chairman of EGF, stated “Education empowers individuals and transforms communities. This congress challenges scholars to expand their thinking, build resilience, and shape a better future.”
The event showcased EGF’s five pillar model which focuses on academic excellence, values, leadership, gender equity and community impact, and celebrated milestones that included 60 000 students benefitting from the scholarship programmes.
The event also highlighted the launch of apprenticeships in HealthTech and AgTech, with partnerships with Microsoft, Cisco, and AWS. The continued growth of the Equity Leaders Programme with 113 scholars heading to top global universities in 2025 was a highlight.
Supported by the Mastercard Foundation, World Bank, KfW, and Equity Bank, the event reaffirmed EGF’s commitment to cultivating innovative leaders who align with Kenya’s development agenda and the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
