NMB Bank makes history as Africa’s first two time EDGE Assess certified bank

NMB Bank Plc has once again made history by becoming the first and only bank in Africa to receive the prestigious EDGE Assess certification for a second time. Awarded by the EDGE Certification Foundation, this recognition reaffirms the bank’s sustained commitment to promoting gender equity in the workplace.

The EDGE (Economic Dividends for Gender Equality) certification is a global standard for workplace gender equality. NMB Bank’s achievement highlights the institution’s consistent efforts to foster an inclusive culture and implement policies that support gender balance across all levels of the organization.

NMB’s gender equity journey has deeply influenced the way the bank operates, leads, and innovates. It has also shaped the development of inclusive financial products designed to economically empower women. These include offerings such as the Fanikiwa Loan, the Jasiri Bond, and Kikundi group-based accounts, all tailored to support women-led businesses and micro-entrepreneurs.

The certification was officially presented by Sam Nganga, IFC’s Manager for Upstream and Advisory in Manufacturing, Agribusiness, and Services. It was received on behalf of NMB Bank by Filbert Mponzi, Chief Retail Banking Officer, and Emmanuel Akonaay, Chief Human Resources Officer, alongside other members of the bank’s senior management team.

This milestone reinforces NMB Bank’s leadership in advancing gender equity in the financial sector, not only in Tanzania but across the African continent.
